Cargo insurance

All-risk door-to-door cover with global insurers. It is not an expense: it protects the continuity of your operation.

If you ask us in writing, we arrange it on your behalf together with the shipment. Its cost appears separately in the quote.

What it covers

Three features of the cover.

All risk

Broad cover

Protects the cargo against loss or damage during transport, and not only against a short list of events. Exclusions and deductibles are set out in the policy.

Door to door

From origin to your warehouse

The cover goes with the cargo along the whole journey, not only during the ocean or air leg.

CIF value

On the value of the goods

The cargo is insured on the CIF value of the goods, which is why we need the value of your purchase to quote.

The supplier’s insurance

The insurance that comes with your purchase is not the one you would choose.

When your supplier arranges the freight, they arrange the insurance too, to comply with the sales contract. That is why it usually covers less than most people assume. If you arrange it, you define the cover according to the value and nature of your cargo.

What happens depending on the Incoterm

  • CIF: the supplier arranges minimum-cover insurance up to the destination port.
  • CIP: the supplier arranges comprehensive insurance, but the risk has already passed to you when the cargo was handed to the first carrier.
  • EXW, FOB and FCA: insurance is not included, and you define it.

Who arranges it

Three ways to insure your cargo.

DUCIS recommends insuring the cargo, either through us or with your own broker.

DUCIS

We arrange it on your behalf

If you ask us in writing, DUCIS arranges it as your agent and adds it to the shipment, with the cost of the insurance on its own line of the quote.

Your broker

You take it out

If you already have an insurance broker, you can arrange the cover with them.

Your supplier

It comes with your purchase

This happens under CIF or CIP. The supplier chooses the cover and the insurer; you do not define them.

The cargo travels at the client’s account and risk. DUCIS is not obliged to arrange insurance unless you expressly request it in writing; in that case it acts as your agent. Premiums and deductibles, and notifying the insurer of a loss within the policy’s deadlines, are the client’s responsibility.See the insurance and claims clauses (in Spanish).

To quote it

What we need from you.

With these details we can quote the cover together with the rest of the shipment. You can enter the value and the goods in the quote form.

  1. The value of the goods, in US dollars.
  2. What the goods are, to define the cover according to their nature.
  3. The commercial invoice, if you already have it. If not yet, we quote anyway.

Next step

Tell us what you need to insure.

With these details our Pricing team can reply within the business day. If information is missing, we write to you before quoting instead of giving you a number that changes later.
